S H I F T
Shift was my first show. It was about changing gears, altering direction. It was my mindset as I move from a corporation to self employment, from a large studio to a spare bedroom, from group efforts to solitary acts, and from a commercial pursuit to a personal one.
Whether I am illustrating a picture book, designing a toy, or creating these personal works, it is always about the shapes. I have always been interested in the sense of volume and space that a simple shape creates. These images are built from the same familiar shapes that I have always used in my work. I’ve tried to give up the narrative while keeping a sense of presence, motion, tension, playfulness, and emotion .
