This was the first of 2 books I did with Susan Lendroth. She has this great Idea of presenting real science to young children in a way they can understand. The stories are written to be read in the form of well known nursery rhymes. Hey-Ho To Mars We’ll Go is a space-age version of “Farmer in the Dell”.

Of course it’s technically fiction, but we wanted it to be as plausible as possible. We haven’t set foot on Mars yet but a lot of smart people are working on it. I tried to follow the latest ideas on how we are going to make it to Mars. We did have a former NASA scientist go over my art to make sure I stayed on course.

Since there is no gravity in space, I thought my illustrations shouldn’t be confined by it. The typography rotates through the book from take off to landing.
